Parish Safety and Security Program

With the ever-increasing incidents of violence in our society, safety and security has become a higher priority for our parishes and schools. Acts of violence in our parish church communities are rare; nevertheless, it is important that we be prepared. The Office of Risk Management, in collaboration with the Office of Religious Education and the General Counsel's Office, has issued Safety and Security Guidelines for Parishes and Religious Education programs.

This document was recently mailed to each parish and sent via email to pastors and religious education coordinators. For a copy of the document, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Presentations and Seminars

On December 17, 2013, the Office of Risk Management offered a presentation at the Pastoral Center on the subject of parish safety and security. Our guest speaker was Sgt. Timothy Cohoon from the Braintree police department. Sgt. Cohoon specializes in school security issues, such as lockdown drills and safety assessments. Mr. McEnness and Sgt. Cohoon discussed ways to enhance the safety and security of the parish community using the resources you have and without losing sight of the mission of your parish. The presentation is now available to view online:
