School and Parish Vaccination Clinics

Children are attacked by the flu more than any other group. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends vaccinating ALL children aged 6 months through 18 years old against influenza.

Flu vaccination season starts in late September as soon as the vaccine is available and extends through January each year. Although schools are strongly encouraged to schedule and sign-up to host a flu vaccination clinic months in advance, it is still not too late to schedule a clinic this Fall.

Two vaccines should be administered this year: the seasonal flu vaccine and the H1N1 flu vaccine. If logistics allow, both vaccines may be administered at the same time.

Scheduling a Clinic

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has experienced a shortage of seasonal flu vaccine and, as of this writing, has only received under a third of the total amount of H1N1 vaccine ordered. (Please see the MDPH health blog for updates on the status of vaccines.) There are, however, healthcare service providers who can adminster both seasonal and H1N1 vaccination clinics in your schools. These companies will provide permission forms, parent information, healthcare staff and vaccines. One such company is Flu Busters based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Flu Busters is a leading provider of onsite vaccination clinics for corporations, government agencies, retail businesses, and schools nationwide. Their vaccines and other preventative healthcare services are provided through a network of licensed healthcare professionals.
